Moved by Commissioner Bengry and seconded by
Commissioner Rivard to approve the minutes of the

Commissioner Ruohomaki to approve the agenda as amended: add Committee Reports
item 3. Brownfield Report and New Business item 6. Moratorium on Federal Rules. MOTION CARRIED unanimously.

monthly report of activities for the county.

Health Code.

B. NEW BUSINESS
1. Payment of Bills.
Moved by Commissioner Schultz and seconded by
Commissioner Rivard to approve the bills in the amount of $78,886.98, as
presented. MOTION CARRIED.
2.
Equalization Report.
Moved
by Commissioner Ruohomaki seconded by Commissioner Bengry to accept the
Equalization Director’s report with a recommended equalized valuation in
3. Rory
Mattson, Road Commission Appointment.
Rory
Mattson, addressed the Board regarding the Attorney General opinion regarding
his appointment to the Road Commission – the Attorney General found no
incompatibility and no Hatch Act violation of his appointment to the Road
Commission Board. MOTION CARRIED.
4.
Airport Hangar Issues.
Moved by Commissioner Rivard and seconded by
Commissioner Schultz to send to the Finance Committee. MOTION CARRIED.
5. Eurasian Milfoil Resolution.
Moved by Commissioner Rivard and seconded by
Commissioner Ruohomaki to adopt a Resolution to Require Users of the Surface
Waters to Financially Participate in Economical Application Fees, Prompt
Governmental Review and Issuance of Permits and Management Efforts to Control
Aquatic Nuisance Species, as presented. MOTION
CARRIED.
6. Moratorium on Federal Rules.
Moved by Commissioner Schultz and seconded by
Commissioner Ruohomaki to send a letter to Rep. Stupak urging him to support
H.R. 5613, which would place another one year moratorium on federal rules that
would effect Pinecrest, Public Health and Mental Health, and healthcare
Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements.
MOTION CARRIED.
XI. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT
Pat Besson addressed the Board with concerns
regarding enforcement of the no smoking 30 feet from the building.
XII. COMMISSIONERS CONCERNS
Commissioners Bengry: None.
Commissioner Rivard: None.
Commissioner Ruohomaki: Moved by Commissioner Bengry and seconded by
Commissioner Schultz for the County to approve sending 4 county officials (Commissioners, Planning
Commission members) to the MSU Extension Michigan Planning Enabling Act and
Updated Zoning Enabling Act training June 9th in Escanaba at a cost
of $100 per person. MOTION CARRIED.
Commissioner Schultz: Good to have Commissioner Rivard here –
welcome back.
Commissioner Elegeert: Concur with Commissioner Schultz. Electrical Code change – all footings will
require re-rod, all re-rod has to be grounded and required to be inspected by
the electrical inspector before footings are poured.
